The crystal circle foundry Longtou Electric accelerates the next generation process, and is ready to advance the original schedule to build the first 1.4-nanometer (A14) crystal factory. The purpose is to expand the leading position of Taiwan Electric's advanced semiconductor industry, with a scheduled investment of NT$1.5 trillion, or approximately US$49 billion, highlighting the determination and strength of Taiwan Electric to maintain its leading position in semiconductor industry.

According to Wccftech, the new 1.4 nanometer crystal circular factory is named "Fab 25", located in the Science Park District of Central Taiwan, adjacent to Taichung City. There are four independent factories, and the first factory will start a 1.4-nanometer trial before the end of 2027. Taiwan Electric has informed the supplier in advance to ensure the acceleration is prepared with 1.4 nanometer precision equipment. According to the timeline, the company is expected to fully invest in 1.4-nanometer chip production in the second half of 2028.

1.4 nanometers will bring significant progress to the chip industry, with performance improvements up to 15% and power consumption up to 30% and a great boon for electronic products that pursue higher efficiency and longer battery life. The three-story Fab 25 factory also focuses on 1.4-nanometer chip production, and Taiwan Electric's attention is also directed at 1 nanometer. The 1nm trial schedule has not been announced yet, which shows the ambition of TECHNO.

1.4 nanometers are the basis for the NTF 2 nanometers scheduled for the fourth quarter. Although it will take several years for 2nm to mature, NTU has shown amazing advancement speed and resources have quickly invested in the construction of a new 1.4nm factory. TrendForce data shows that NTU's market accounted for more than 70% of the market in the second quarter, and the demand for 2nm crystal circles will increase in 2026 and is expected to increase again. The cost of cutting-edge technology is of course high. The cost per unit of 2nm crystals is as high as US$30,000, and the NT$1.4 nanometer crystals may reach about US$45,000. The cost of growth is the key that customers must consider when choosing the latest process.

Taiwan's 1.4-nanometer crystalline factory construction was started in advance, not only strengthening the leading position of the global semiconductor industry, but also once again showing the pursuit of innovation and production capacity expansion. Fab 25 is gradually completed and advanced production continues to invest, and Taiwan Power continues to play an indispensable role, laying the foundation for future high-performance chip production. The market will also closely monitor Taiwan's progress and its deep impact on global electronics industries.
