Nearly half of adults have obesity problems! Waist control is equally important

According to the world's hygiene organizational statistics, among the adults 18 years old and above in 2016, there were more than 1.9 billion people with severe cases, of which more than 6500 million were obese, indicating that obesity has become an important issue in the world. According to the definition of the National Health Department, the body mass index (BMI) of adults over 18 years old is "overweight", while the BMI ≧27 is "obesity".

The rate of overweight and obesity in Taiwan in 2016-2019 was as high as 47.9%, with nearly half of adults having weight problems, and the prevalence of obesity among children and adolescents was also as high as 11.21%. The above data all show that there is still room for improvement in the prevalence of overweight and obesity in Taiwan. In addition to BMI, waist is also an important indicator of health. According to the definition of the National Health Administration, abdominal obesity is ≧90cm for men and ≧80cm for women. This connection reflects the accumulation of internal fat, affecting the body's new CHEN CHEN, which leads to increased blood triglyceride concentration and increased blood sugar, and the risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes will increase.

8 of the top ten causes of death are related to obesity! The mortality rate of COVID-19 is higher than that of ordinary people

Chairman Lin Wenyuan of Taiwan Obesity Medical Association said that obesity is a chronic disease that not only causes physical energy decline, but may also lead to various types of licensing and medical diseases. Chronic diseases related to obesity include type 2 diabetes, epidemiotic syndrome, cardiovascular disease, degenerative inflammation, cancer, sleep apnea, depression, non-alcoholic fatty liver, infertility, gastroesophageal reflux, etc. Eight of the top ten causes of death in Taiwan are related to obesity, including cancer, heart disease, brain vascular disease, diabetes, hypertension diseases, chronic lower respiratory tract diseases, kidney inflammation, kidney syndrome and kidney disease changes, chronic liver disease and cirrhosis, etc., which lead to an increase in medical costs and social costs. Not only that, obesity will also increase the risk of severe illness when suffering from COVID-19, and the hospitalization rate is three times that of normal people with severe weight, and obese hospitalizations are twice as high as those with healthy hospitalizations!
