Alan Shearer suggested that Guardiola should focus on Manchester City's defensive problems instead of complaining about referee decisions. Manchester City lost 2-1 to Newcastle United at St James' Park in Saturday night's Premier League match.
Guardiola was obviously frustrated with the result, as the game interrupted Manchester City's 3-0 win over Liverpool before the international break. But Newcastle legend Alan Shearer believes he has bigger worries.
"I understand his frustration because his team lost and lost miserably in the second half," Shearer said on Premier League Productions. "They didn't create many chances. He was emotional after the game and saw his team lose in a difficult game, but for me, it was more worrying how many chances they gave their opponents rather than the referee's decision or Bad luck."
"They could have scored six or seven goals if the Newcastle players were more accurate - they missed four absolute chances. The way they ripped apart the Manchester City defense makes me more worried. "
"Manchester City are really not as good as they were before, and we may never see the same incredible performance from them again," Shearer added. "They set the bar very high in terms of winning trophies, scoring goals etc and they performed so well that I'm not sure we'll ever see that again."
"They're certainly not the same team, especially without the brilliant Rodri and his protection. Next. I'm not sure they've found a replacement as good, probably not. But for me the more worrying thing is that they're always going to score goals, but defensively they're obviously not as sharp as they used to be."
