Arsenal official announcement:
We have reached an agreement with Fu'an Jianyang, and both parties agree to terminate their contract from now on. The 26-year-old defender joined Arsenal from Bologna in August 2021, and has made a total of 84 appearances for the team during his time.
Japanese international Kenyo Fu'an quickly settled in the main position of right-back after joining, and won the club's Player of the Month twice in September 2021 and October 2023.
His career started with the Fukuoka Hornets in the J1 League. He transferred to the Belgian St. Turden Club in 2018 and was elected as the Player of the Season. He has since made it to the Serie A arena.
Since being selected for the national team in 2018, Fu'an Kenyo has played 42 games on behalf of the Japanese national team, successively in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the 2022 Qatar World Cup, and helped Japan advance to the quarterfinals of the Asian Cup in February 2024.
In the past two seasons, injury problems have severely limited Fu'an Jianyang's playing time, and he only got one chance to play as a substitute last season. After negotiation between the two parties, it was decided to terminate the contract early to help him start a new chapter in his career.
All members of Arsenal Football Club expressed their deep gratitude to Fu'an Jianyang for his contributions, and wish him and his family all the best in the future.
Fuan Jianyang joined Arsenal with a transfer fee of 18.6 million euros in 2021, and then played 84 times for the Gunners. His original contract with Arsenal will only end next season. At the beginning of the 24/25 season, Fuan Jianyang only played once, lasting 6 minutes.
Fu'an Jianyang underwent initial surgery in August last year, then resumed full training and came off the bench in the Premier League home game against Southampton in October, but his knee problems still exist, which led to him needing another correctional surgery.
In February this year, Arsenal announced that Fu'an Jianyang had a new knee correction surgery. At that time, his recovery period was expected to last until the end of this year, which means that Fu'an Jianyang would not be able to play in 2025.
