A cute and clean dog suddenly had tear stains on its face, causing its appearance to be damaged. Many pet owners couldn’t help but ask, what happened to the dog’s tear stains? Today I will discuss it with you in detail.
1. Nasolacrimal duct obstruction
Due to infection, the nasolacrimal duct becomes inflamed and swollen, causing the entire duct to be completely blocked or incompletely blocked. Tears cannot be discharged from the nasolacrimal duct normally, and will naturally overflow to form tear stains.
2. Ear canal infection
When the ear canal is infected by bacteria, viruses, molds, parasites, or the ear is swollen, painful, or itchy, the pain in the deep part of the ear canal will extend to around the eyes, and it will stimulate the secretion of the tear gland. When too many tears cannot be discharged from the nasolacrimal duct, they will overflow from the corners of the eyes near the nose.
3. Entropion of the eyelids
Entropion of the eyelids means that the eyelashes are inserted upside down. This situation will cause the eyelashes to constantly irritate the cornea, causing the dog's eyes to be very uncomfortable. Therefore, the dog will be found to frequently scratch its eyes with its forelimbs, causing tear stains.
4. Dacryoadenitis
Mainly due to infection of the lacrimal glands that secrete tears, resulting in abnormal and large secretion of tears, and the nasolacrimal ducts have no time to clear so many tears, which will lead to the outflow of tears and the formation of unsightly tear stains over time.
